Saas Almagell

Saas-Almagell is the southernmost settlement in the Saas Valley, situated at an altitude of 1,600 metres.
A family-friendly village with an idyllic atmosphere, it owes its fame not least to its three ski stars:
Pirmin, Heidi and Silvan Zurbriggen. Take the chairlift to Furggstalden (1900 m) and beyond to Heidbodme (2400m).

Saas-Almagell in winter

Would you like to ski where ski star Pirmin Zurbriggen made his first tentative attempts to glide on snow? In that case, the family-oriented Furggstalden-Heidbodme ski area with guaranteed snow is just what you are looking for. Speed down the 3 km long toboggan run, take a romantic winter hike on well-groomed paths or tackle the 26 km long Saas Valley cross-country skiing trail. Skate or enjoy a game of Bavarian curling at the ice rink (right in front of the hotel). And when it comes to the après ski: good things come in small packages!

Saas-Almagell in summer

With its beautiful side valleys, Saas-Almagell offers the visitor an extensive and varied network of hiking paths. The Mattmark reservoir and its gentle, almost level circular trail is a popular destination for days out. This area with its long and rich history is a superb place for hiking. Across the Monte-Moro pass, for example, or the Antrona pass to Italy which were already used by the ancient Romans and the Walser people – and many smugglers! The oldest surviving hamlet in Saas-Almagell is at Furggstalden. Here you will encounter pristine ancient Valais houses as they used to be. The Almagelleralp is also well worth a visit - whether you take the traditional way via the high-altitude trail or the rather more adventurous alternative of the Almagellerhorn adventure trail.

A diverse and colourful, sometimes almost Mediterranean alpine flora complements the scene, and medical studies show that simply spending time at 1500 metres above sea level has a beneficial effect on the body, mind and soul. What’s more, this clean high-altitude climate is almost completely free from pollen.
